Chris Bjorin: Pro Pker's Mr. Nice Guy
One of the shyest pro poker players is Chris Bjorin. He rarely appears on television and prefers to stay out of the radar especially from news coverages and interviews. However shy Bjorin may be his expertise and influence in the UK pro poker circuit is something to brag about. Since the early 90's, Bjorin has been a regular player at the World Series of Poker.
He accumulated two bracelets from two of the WSOP's events; the first one at the 1997 $ 1,500 Pot-limit Omaha where he took home $ 169,200 and the other at the 2001 $ 3,000 No-limit Hold'em where he took home $ 334,110.
Chris Bjorin's best and strongest game is No-limit Hold'em. At the 1992, 1997 and 2001 World Series of Poker $ 10,000 No-limit Hold'em main event, he finished taking home the money. And as of 2005, Bjorin's earnings have reached more than $ 1.5 million.
Bjorin's participation in the World Poker Tour has not yet reached the final tables. However, he has already made a mark on the Professional Poker Tour and has made it on the final tables and events. The World Poker Tour Enterprises is the creator of the Professional Poker Tour, and it is only an invitational event where 200 or so players are invited with a freeroll of $ 500,000 on every event.
Bjorin made it to the championship of the 2002 $ 5,000 Hall of Fame Poker Classic. He was the only non-American and one of the best players who joined the tournament. The best names in the pro poker league namely Howard Lederer, Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel and Daniel Negreanu were Bjorin's opponents at the starting table. 2002 was a blast for Bjorin because made three wins in different events and seven final tables on No-limit Hold'em events.
Bjorin got 11th place in the $ 10,000 No-limit Hold'em event of the 2003 L.A. Poker Classic tour. He took home $ 21,355 and the prize at stake was more than $ 1.3 million.
The 2002 Player of the Year review of the Card Player Magazine named Chris Bjorin as the winner of the Nice Guy award. Bjorin is a noted gentleman on and off the pro poker tables. He has made his fans and opponents admire him for being a good guy inside-out.
Chris Bjorin lives in London, England though he was born and raised in Sweden. He is also into sports betting when not engaged in poker tournaments. His son, Elon, also has inclinations on poker-playing. However, the older Bjorin refuses to teach his son and he wants him to learn the game and acquire his skills through experience.
