David Colclough: One of Europe's Best
Known as El Blondie, David Colclough is a popular aggressive player and an expert in Omaha. He is the top-ranking player in Europe and ranks second in the over-all. Colclough has estimated earnings of over $ 1.65 million in live tournaments as of 2005.
In the World Series of Poker, Colclough has concluded 12 times in the money. He said that he won at the 2000 World Series of Poker, most probably at the $ 2000 Pot-limit Hold'em event, but he needed to give up his bracelet as part of a deal. After this event, he gained the professional status. He made it to the final table of the World Poker Tour which featured several prominent names such as Sam Farha and Chip Reese. Colclough took home the prize money of $ 103,507 from this event.
In 2003, Colclough has earned many achievements in his field. He was voted as the European Poker Player of the Year. He won at the �1,000 No-limit Hold'em at Midland Masters, Walsall in November with a cash prize amounting to $ 91,993. Colclough won first place in several events such as the �2,000 Omaha Cup Summer Tournament in Paris, earning him a cash prize of $ 75,920. He also won at the �400 Pot-limit Omaha event in Dublin where he took home $ 23,723 in prizes.
2005 was another successful year for Colclough. He got in to the semi's of the �2,000 World Heads-up Championship and he took home �20,000. He was also made inductee in the European Poker Players Hall of Fame and he was considered the youngest inductee in its history at the age of 41.
Colclough was a son of an English father and Welsh mother, and he was born on March 14, 1964 in Carmarthan, South Wales. Being exposed to poker at a young age made him interested in the game but he was detentioned twice for playing poker in the school's common room. Colclough was not fazed by his childhood experience, and he was able to finish his education and got his Information Technology qualifications.
He worked in several sectors as an IT specialist but he decided to give up his IT career due to constraints in playing poker. As a professional poker player he gained substantial amounts. But when he invested most of his winnings on a business venture, he nearly went bankrupt before he closed it down. A twist of fate for Colclough at the closure of his business was when his poker career took a big leap.
David Colclough and his second wife reside in Birmingham, and he has a daughter from his first marriage.
